Cormac Solutions, on behalf of Cornwall Council, has undertaken a review of pedestrian crossing facilities in Longdowns on the A394. The proposal includes the construction of a new pedestrian crossing with a central refuge as well as the construction of a footway where there is currently verge. The new crossing will provide pedestrians with a safer method of crossing the road. Currently pedestrians are required to cross a wide stretch of road with two lanes. The new refuge will provide pedestrians with the option to cross one lane at a time, decreasing crossing time while improving safety.
This scheme originated from Cornwall Council and the local highway manager who identified the need for an improved crossing in the area.
The purpose of the scheme is to improve the safety of crossing the road at this location. It is also to provide a paved footway instead of pedestrians walking on the verge or highway.
