Consultation Summary

Following discussions with Cornwall Council, Falmouth Town Council, Falmouth Place Shaping Group and Neighbourhood Development Plan, in line with the Active Travel initiative, it has been agreed to amend the restrictions on driving on High Street and within the existing pedestrian zone in Falmouth that includes Market Street/Church Street/Arwenack Street and adjoining streets along its length.

Background:

The intention is to prohibit all motor vehicles except taxis from High Street and to prohibit all motor vehicles except local buses and taxis from Market Street/Church Street/Arwenack Street and adjoining streets between the hours of 11am and 4pm, except for access to permit/private parking areas.

The restrictions will be implemented as an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) which will be brought into force on 27 May 2021.

The ETRO will be in force for a maximum period of 18 months, whilst its effects are monitored and assessed, before any decision is made to make these arrangements permanent.

Scheme Objectives

It is anticipated that the use of this Order will:

(a) avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the roads or any other road or prevent the likelihood of any such danger arising;

(b) facilitate the passage on the roads or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians);

(c) preserve or improve the amenities of the area through which the roads run.
